As we continue to live in the new world of Covid-19, more moms are joining the mom family. This new journey has been interesting to many new moms since the beginning of Covid-19, more than one year ago. One year later, Mandy and her husband Taylor Goldsmith have a cute baby boy named, August Harrison. According to People.com baby August was born on Feb. 20, 2021. Mandy posted a picture of her adorable son on her twitter account labeled, “This is Gus and #ThisIsUs.” After her television sitcom, This Is Us.
As more moms are welcoming their new bundles of joy into the world, Moms like humanitarian and musician Ciara, continue to navigate motherhood with ease. Mrs. Russell Wilson (her husband, is an NFL player and fellow humanitarian), have added a second son to their now family of five.
These new moms are navigating a new world, which relies on careful maneuvering and care. How are you as a mom navigating the world of Covid-19. I am working from home, and it feels like a never ending day and night of motherhood. Today, was the 1st day this week I was able to take a ride by myself.
Today’s post is a little different. As I embark on this new journey as a doctoral student, I am excited to where it ends: Doctor of Education degree. I am working and enrolled in graduated school, pursuing my Doctor of Education in Organizational Leadership with emphasis in K-12 education. At the same time, I just recently experienced the most honest conversation with a loved one. It really pained me to say the truth to them. However, I was emotionally exhausted. I believe I have held in my truth for so long that my emotions have been shut down.
I can not believe I waited so long to finally say, finally what my TRUTH WAS!! I poured out my feelings and my only response from this family member was, “Thanks for your honesty.” When someone consistently hurts your feelings, and you pour out your heart, and this is their response, it’s not you (that has the problem), it’s them. I know know that I am not the crazy person. I am growing and trying to better myself as an adult. I wish everyone will see their path to an healthy adulting journey.
On the other side, I am finishing the first class in my doctoral journey and I am excited and scared at the same time. Never fear! The journey Ma’am is all worth it. Have you ever experienced a tough conversation? How did you handle it?
I am in the 3rd day of the week after a long Mardi Gras week off and two days trying to get over a viral infection. I do not feel as if I had enough time to get better. Between taking care of my son, who has autism and is under me 24/7, to the demands of being a wife and house cleaner, I am exhausted. I am investing the time into taking naps when I get off of work, maintaining my blog and just trying to keep my head on straight. I was late for work this week, two days in a row 😦
Normally, I have my stuff together, but the last few weeks have been a little rough. So, what do I do?
1. Pray for release of the pressure.
2. Communicate my needs to my spouse.
3. Rely on him more to navigate the chores, I am too exhausted to take up.
4. Keep my son, Lambchop on his schedule, to relieve the pressure off of me.
5. Remind myself that it’s going to be ok.
6. Take naps daily.
7. Go to bed early.
8. Do not stress over things I cannot control.
9. Pray more.
10. Relax, Relate, Release.
Wowzers!! The year is going by faster than expected. A lot has happened since my last post. During that time, I was busy posting on my Instagram page, of the many fashion week likes I was feeling. I have changed the look of, 4373FASHIONLANE.COM. I enjoyed the last few days preparing for my experience riding on a Mardi Gras float with the, Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale.
Here are some things I am working on this week and the next few days:
4373beautylane, is a new instagram page, in which I wanted to highlight only beauty content. Additionally, I am learning the art of makeup and needed a place for women, such as myself, who do not want to continue spending hundreds of dollars having someone else applying our makeup, when we can accomplish this art on our own.
There is so much I want to accomplish with the brand, 4373…however, I know that great content requires time and effort.
I am a born and raised resident of New Orleans, and it’s carnival (Mardi Gras season), I parade (ride) with the Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale. We are celebrating five wonderful years as the 1st African American all female krewe in the cities 300 year history. Mardi Gras originally began in the year 1700.
The first krewe, was all white, male and rich. Women were not allowed to parade and women of color were in slavery, and not considered property.
Even though we have the men of the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club., women are not allowed voting privileges in these male dominated krewes.
It warms my spirit to know that we now have an organization that appreciates the lives, work and dedication of African American, professional and educated women in the city of New Orleans.
In the photos above, I decided I was not going to spend hundreds of dollars on hair and makeup. I styled on own hair and applied my own makeup. I think I did well for a beginner, MUA.
Please read the article for yourself. It’s a cool read. This reading led me to pose this question: how do we maintain a thick skin while navigating the world of social media?
Many bloggers, social media entrepreneurs and folks in general, struggle in this arena. How can you maintain a separate space for emotional sanity when all around you are people perpetuating a perfect life scenario?
The answer is you must have a strong core. Otherwise, everything this we see will leave us miserable. We are in different categories of life and thus our standing in life leaves us fully or partially fulfilled.
How do you build a strong Core? Find what inspires your spirit the most and dive into that area.
Additionally, find what is inspiring and bask in that aspect on social media.
There are times where I too, venture into a little ratchet television, social media postings and gossip blog sites, for kicks and giggles.
Some people who are fulfilled in life look for inspiration and social media is not always the fix for this.
Author, Jasmine Lamb, explored three areas where her life did change when she unplugged:
1. I read more—I buy new books as much as I try new lipstick, so, a lot. I finally got around to making a dent in some pretty crucial reads. Instead of stopping to take mental work breaks to scroll through my various timelines, I picked up a book instead.
2. I doubted myself less—Let’s face it, comparison is a total killjoy. Every time I felt I had made significant progress in my entrepreneurial journey, I’d stop to scroll through Instagram and immediately felt I was back at square one. Quitting Instagram allowed me to be more present in the everyday wins and look at my experiences as a continuous story that’s just as unique and valuable as anyone else’s.
3. My focus shifted—Not only was I more present, but I started to think of new ways to be creative in my “in-between” time, whether it was brainstorming new ideas to reach my business goals, choosing to meditate and re-affirm the day’s intentions, or having more real-time conversations with people I value in real life.
So, the question is, how do YOU maintain a thick skin navigating the world of social media?

The struggle of the 6-8 week relaxer treatments for women of color is an ongoing struggle. I love my straight edges. However, I do not like the chemical burns, relaxer smell and the new growth. I have been wearing extensions, since August. I love them but hate the price. I took them out last night. I do not like the inability to take them out and wash my hair thoroughly on a weekly basis.
PAST PHOTOS WITH MYSELF IN WIGS OR EXTENSIONS 🙂
I am trying to figure out the next wave. Do I go back to the wigs and extensions, or do I take the jump to wearing my natural hair. Decisions!!!!!!!
Please check out some pictures of my past looks with my hair choices. Let me know what you think. I love the flexibility of wearing wigs and extensions. A woman always has a choice to change things up.
Here we are I will be uploading all weekend. I have time today, lol!!! People are saying Rihanna has set the standard for other brands to step their game up. Now, there is not a single reason for other makeup companies to launch more makeup that is inclusive and diverse. Check out Youtuber, Kasey Rayton below.
Founder, Creator and Musician Rihanna Fenty is launching her new makeup company, Fenty Beauty. She is a woman for women. She is our champion and she is doing something for the younger generation of women who may feel older brands are out of touch with the young, diverse makeup demographic. Welcome to the Launch Party for Fenty Beauty.
Rihanna, is giving us a behind the scene look at her Launch Party.
I will be heading to Sephora in store, to purchase my items from the entire collection. I am going to be an forever supporter for the company due to her celebration of women and diversity.
Us Weekly is reporting that Kim is ALLEGEDLY, hanging in there, but is seeking a way out of the marriage. I FOR ONE DO NOT BELIEVE THIS. WHY? Kim loves Kanye. Kanye loves Kim. Both of them love their kids. They went through a lot to become man and wife and build a family.
Next, I do not see Kim giving up so easily. She is a fighter and a woman who loves her family. Kim is the next Queen of the Kardashian Clan. She is very careful of who and what happens in the family. She is right to care for her husband, while making sure he is mentally prepared to be around the children. He could possibly feel overwhelmed still and is in need of assurances.
Next, men in the African American community do not admit when help for emotional selfceare is need. Honestly, that is considered a taboo. It was brave for Kanye to agree for help. Good Job Kanye. Kim and Kanye, we wish you all love, blessings and closure to this uphill chapter in your lives.
This was my first time ordering from Beautylish. The one interesting and appealing point about the website is their payment options. You can pay all at once or set up a payment plan like, QVC or HSN. Those are the only sites I have ever used to order items for and they used payment plan. The excellent part of the ordering experience is the shipping. They use Fedex. Their shipping is fast and I will definitely become a repeat customer.
The items ordered were all from Charlotte Tilbury. I was introduced to the brand by watching one of Kim Kardashian app videos, as a subscriber. She gave Ms. Tilbury good review and I thought, “I need to check her out.” One thing I realized quickly that her items were a little high priced and after my Chanel makeup and skincare splurge, I would wait for Ms. Tilbury. I am glad I did. Not that I needed another foundation, but I seem to be drawn into buying more foundations than I need. However, I do use them. I mainly use my Chanel. Now, I am going to begin using my Charlotte Tilbury foundation.
The one item I cannot wait to get into is the CT (Charlotte Tilbury) Multi-Miracle Glow. It is supposed to be used as a cleanser, mask and Balm for baby soft skin. It is an anti-wrinkle cashmere cleanser, an overnight regenerating facial mask and a face and body (sos) Balm. I cannot wait to see what happens and of course I will keep you posted.
The amazing actress (Scandal, Django, etc), and her husband (former NFL standout), Nnamdi Asomugha, have welcomed a healthy baby boy named, Caleb Kelechi Asomugha. They are now the beautiful family of four. The family welcomed a daughter, Isabelle, in April 2014. Congrats!!!
If she can do it, so can you. If she can live life on her own terms, what’s stopping you from living life on your own terms. Dress how you wish. Make up your face. What I have learned is to treat my face like a canvas.
I am caring for my face and loving my blemishes away. I use Bio Oil, Mederma (the generic version from walgreen, because it was on sale, LOL). I am into the ipsy bags! They have some cute stuff they send monthly. I dress and pay attention to what looks good on my body. I weigh myself. I want to be honest with myself about my weight struggles. It’s ok!
Be like Rhianna! Live life! Forget everything else!
This months April 2016 cover of Lane Bryant’s Spring Catalog, shows a very non plus size woman on it’s cover. In my opinion, if you’re going to brand yourself as a company for plus size women, than do it 100%. Otherwise, you’re a liar!
Serena Williams has spoken out about the atrocious behavior of the CEO of Indian Wells Tennis saying women should be on their knees thanking the men tennis players because the men have made the sport what it is.
