We are gearing up for the weekend, Mardi Gras and getting over a viral infection. I am on day 2 of being home sick. This morning I am still in recovery mode from being ill. My son’s school is out today.
His school is celebrating Mardi Gras break a little early. I woke up around 8ish. Hubster was already gone to work. We have this routine that he leaves before our son and I because Lambchop (our son’s nickname), has Autism and separation anxiety. We tracked the anxiety triggers and are finding ways to work around it.
I am a special education teacher and this step (tracking behavior triggers), is easy for me, 🙂
We are doing well with Lambchop thus far.
Breakfast: Pancakes, eggs, smoke sausage, milk, and juice.
Lunch: Not sure what’s on the menu for that.
Blog: I am always looking for ways to update the look and character of 4373fashionlane.com.
Pinterest: I am working on being better at adding blog postings and tidbits on the site. I have claimed the site on Pinterest, finally!!! xx.

You understand the drill, wake up, go to work, feel sick, go to the doctor, come home. Next day, the same thing. Well today, I am home with an upper respiratory infection and fever. It’s really crazy how much of a difference going to an Urgent care clinic is from going to the emergency room. Plus, it’s cheaper to go to the urgent care clinic versus going to the ER. I am stuck for two days in bed.
Am I sad!!! No way, Mardi Gras 2018 is next week and school is out for the entire week, next week. I have began my Mardi Gras 2018 holiday two days early. The only down turn is my students were working on their Mardi Gras Shoebox Floats and of course, I miss them.
This morning my Instagram, postings are up. Of course you will see more but on that I am loving early this morning is from the fashion doll and wife of Media Mogul Steve Harvey, is Marjorie Harvey. Her social media is the bomb.com in a good way. Her fashion eye is first class.
Another person is having the time of her life. This is the actress Yara Shahidi. Here she is with Lady O, that is Oprah Winfrey and Oprah Super Soul Conversations event at the Apollo Theater:
Oprah is changing hearts, minds and dreams daily. Her #SuperSoulSessions and #SuperSoulConversation events are just a testament to her global staying power!!!
Wowzers!! The year is going by faster than expected. A lot has happened since my last post. During that time, I was busy posting on my Instagram page, of the many fashion week likes I was feeling. I have changed the look of, 4373FASHIONLANE.COM. I enjoyed the last few days preparing for my experience riding on a Mardi Gras float with the, Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale.
Here are some things I am working on this week and the next few days:
4373beautylane, is a new instagram page, in which I wanted to highlight only beauty content. Additionally, I am learning the art of makeup and needed a place for women, such as myself, who do not want to continue spending hundreds of dollars having someone else applying our makeup, when we can accomplish this art on our own.
There is so much I want to accomplish with the brand, 4373…however, I know that great content requires time and effort.
I am a born and raised resident of New Orleans, and it’s carnival (Mardi Gras season), I parade (ride) with the Mystic Krewe of Femme Fatale. We are celebrating five wonderful years as the 1st African American all female krewe in the cities 300 year history. Mardi Gras originally began in the year 1700.
The first krewe, was all white, male and rich. Women were not allowed to parade and women of color were in slavery, and not considered property.
Even though we have the men of the Zulu Social Aid and Pleasure Club., women are not allowed voting privileges in these male dominated krewes.
It warms my spirit to know that we now have an organization that appreciates the lives, work and dedication of African American, professional and educated women in the city of New Orleans.

In the photos above, I decided I was not going to spend hundreds of dollars on hair and makeup. I styled on own hair and applied my own makeup. I think I did well for a beginner, MUA.
Here in New Orleans we spent our day inside looking at the news about the black ice, closed schools and shut down city. We are at freezing levels down here.
I am so glad we have to stay inside today. I wanted to take off from work yesterday and hunker down, but I remembered I was doing a lesson on the history of Mardi Gras and yesterday was king cake day for all of my B day classes.
My students loved their king cake and had a blast learning about the history of it. Some students got the baby and are now tasked with bring the next king cake, which is a Mardi Gras tradition.
Thus, I am home today due to the weather issues and I am glad about it. My classroom is cold. We have an open campus, by design and when the students enter my building, because I am on the end of the hall, I get the cold or hot drafts blown into my classroom. UGH!!!
Now let’s chat about Tarte Cosmetics!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I posted a previous post about Tarte Cosmetics and their down right disrespect of women and men of color, in their non release of inclusive shades of their, Shape Tape Foundations. See the link to the article by Allure Magazine on it here.
After looking and watching makeup reviews from Jackie Aina, MakeupShayla and Alyssa Ashleyy, I am once again determined to use my blog to speak out against the injustice of makeup companies who refuse to include people of color in their branding, campaigns, ads and public relations of their products.
Here are some of the comments posted on facebook from people on social media about this debacle:
Here is the response from Tarte Cosmetics:

I just unsubscribed from the company. I am no longer going to purchase anything from them. It’s just unbelievable. I do not for one moment believe them. If they were sincere, why turn off the comments on Instagram:
See! Tarte Cosmetics, you are busted. Yes, customers will purchase your products. However, I will not.
A coconut fan favorite is now available at Sephora. Price $38. The Kopari Coconut Crush Scrub is divine and an Allure Beauty award 🥇 winner. Check it out and see for yourself⚜️

Gone are the days where it was just a boys will be boys situation in the arena of sexual harassment.
The hammer is coming down hard and swift for these men who have, possibly for years, (in some cases), treated men and women like physical ping pons for their perverted pleasures.
Matt Lauer is the latest in a long line of men who have been fired because, allegedly, they could not keep their mouth close and hands in their pockets.
We are still awaiting the exact details of the situation, but ABC Executive Andy Lack, let the hammer fall fast on Lauer.
Since the beginning of the Grammy Awards, African American musicians have had to claw their way into sustainable recognition.
There is an old saying we were taught and Olivia Pope hears it from her father on Scandal all of the time, “We have to be ten times better, ten times faster, to get ahead.”
Unfortunately, race does play a role in how people see themselves over others. Let’s clear that part of the table right away. Some people are taught this tragic way of thinking from childhood and it shifts their adult focus into how they see people who do not have the same shade as theirs.
This form of racism was been in the grammy awards stratosphere for as long as the awards themselves have been given out.
This year, with the voting delegates becoming more inclusive, that dream is a seeable reality.
After Beyonce’ was shut out last year, the Grammys learned a valuable lesson, the beyhive stings back.
Social media campaigns were energized against the Grammys due to their exclusion of artist in rhythm and blues, rap and hip hop categories for artist in categories whose music never made it to radio, or the music was released more than a year prior.
Here are the nominations for this year’s Grammy categories:

Fragrances routinely waft in and out of Vogue’s Beauty department, but when it comes to the subtle leathery scent of Le Labo’s cult Santal 26—no matter what deadlines are looming or phones are ringing—even the most discerning of noses perk up. So imagine the delight when the label’s new home diffuser, which emits a steady stop-you-in-your-tracks-it-smells-so-good stream of the cult eau, arrived at the office.
Made from Northeast maple wood, a type of marked-up golden brown lumber that is often cast aside for bonfires, the one-of-a-kind scent-spreader transforms the rich fragrance oil, by way of a built-in nebulizer, into a fine mist. But, of course, it doesn’t stop there: Each handmade showpiece also comes equipped with a vintage lightbulb that, with a twist of a silver knob, simultaneously lets off a warm amber glow. A simple desk lamp that doubles as a luxurious perfume? Now that’s a gift too good to give.
The struggle of the 6-8 week relaxer treatments for women of color is an ongoing struggle. I love my straight edges. However, I do not like the chemical burns, relaxer smell and the new growth. I have been wearing extensions, since August. I love them but hate the price. I took them out last night. I do not like the inability to take them out and wash my hair thoroughly on a weekly basis.
PAST PHOTOS WITH MYSELF IN WIGS OR EXTENSIONS 🙂
I am trying to figure out the next wave. Do I go back to the wigs and extensions, or do I take the jump to wearing my natural hair. Decisions!!!!!!!
Please check out some pictures of my past looks with my hair choices. Let me know what you think. I love the flexibility of wearing wigs and extensions. A woman always has a choice to change things up.
This video above features music sensation, fashion designer, creator and founder, Rihanna of Fenty Beauty. Take a look as she demonstrates the portable highlighter brush. It is magnetized and interchangeable. She also let’s you see the highlighting shimmer, which is wonderful as well.
Dear Makeup Dolls & Kens,
Today, or rather at midnight this morning, Rihanna took the beauty community by storm by launching her makeup line. No! I did not order anything yet. I am going into the store. I want to sit at a mirror, have my foundation perfectly matched and buy until I can’t anymore. I am giving Rihanna everything, the makeup community has not given me: choice. As much as I love other brands, they do not (on purpose), cater to women of warmer skin tones. If you are honest with me, they do not cater to women of extreme fairer skin complexions either. We all fall victim to the drama or fair complexion representation, in the makeup community.
I am excited for Rihanna, as if she were my own sister, taking the world by storm. She is completing this not only through her music and fashions, but through her makeup collection. Bravo! Rihanna. There has not been a woman of color doing this since IMAN. Tyra Banks has done this. However, it is not on the full fledge scale as RiRi. Her music, fashions and now makeup will give the little girls all over the world optimism. Rihanna is the island woman that we love and that dry and island love is coming to a Sephora, near you!!!!
As an educator (ELA, History), it was profound and enlightening to know I was selected to attend Yale University this summer to explore the Life and Writings of Frederick Douglass. I have spent a week on campus, exploring, learning and living through the mood, feelings and thoughts of Mr. Douglass. This is a running blog post as I continue to add more photographs and notes, thoughts and emotions. The most lovely experiences of my life as an educator, was coming to this week long event. It has inspired me to explore more that just makeup, fashion and news with this website. It is encouraging me to become more open in my educator side of myself.
Here is another blog post from Yale University on history in the time of Frederick Douglass.
